The art of inventing excuses is an old art. Most of our ancient “sacred” texts contain a myriad of contradictions and conflicts, but being “sacred” – these contradictions and conflicts must be resolved… How can the gods be mistaken?<\/p>\n
The good news is that it’s relatively easy to come up with solutions to practically everything. Try it yourself – it’s fun. You can always invent some creative explanations, just use your imagination. In fact, much of our sacred texts are no more than many such explanations made to even-earlier texts. Alas, your own creative excuses and explanations stand little chance of becoming “sacred” in the future – you need your own flock of believers for that to happen.<\/p>\n
If worse comes to worst, you can always do what every politician does best: Putting words in someone else’s mouth. That’s an old art with great proven results. The text seems ridiculously absurd? It’s okay – the original author meant something slightly different. Here you can even find an example of the “true” meaning in another place [fill in the blanks].<\/p>\n
After all, cases of ancient texts involve authors who have been dead for years. It will be quite difficult for them to say you’re wrong, heh. You don’t believe me? Try posting your own such excuse to a biblical contradiction, in some religious forum. Make it sound serious and scholarly phrased, as if you really mean it.<\/p>\n
Still, there is one question that deserves some attention: If our gods are allegedly almighty, most of those excuses and explanations are not really needed anyway.
