The big parties in the Israeli parliament (the “Knesset”) quarrel over the image of the future government. One of the main issues? Things associated with a bit more separation of church and state. In particular: Public transportation in the weekends, the right of every couple to get married regardless of religious constraints, compulsory basic education for ultra-Orthodox kids, etc.<\/p>\n
For some reason these demands are presented as against<\/b> the ultra-Orthodox population. REALLY???<\/b> Have we lost our minds?<\/p>\n
Since when basic education for kids is “against” kids? Since when the availability of public transportation for those who need it – is “against” anyone? How come the right to get married, for couples who want it, may be “against” something? In fact it appears in article 16 of the United Nations’ Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which has been officially signed by the State of Israel…<\/p>\n
