The Amazon rainforest is on fire, while many world leaders are troubled by customs wars, local disputes or elections propaganda. This just demonstrates the short-term thinking of the human mind. We generally don’t perceive the risks of global warming or overpopulation for the same reason we don’t really perceive animals’ and plants’ evolution.
Ironically the reason is evolution itself. We have never in the history of life on Earth had to grasp long periods of time in order to survive. Thus we have become a species that perhaps understand long run planning, but doesn’t really have a “feeling” for it.
In short, how does it help me, as an Israeli, when Donald Trump moves the U.S. Embassy into Jerusalem with one hand, while he contributes to making Jerusalem soon a desert with the other hand?
